After server outages, Payday 3 developers look to be “less dependent on online services”

The third episode in the successful cooperative heist series, payday, was released to the masses last week. However, the always-online nature of the title returned when its login and matchmaking servers buckled under the sheer number of players trying to play. After a weekend of outages and downtime, developer Starbreeze gave an update on what happened and what solutions are working.

According to the developer, despite hosting several beta stress tests, the matchmaking system of Payment day 3 “Encountered an unexpected error” due to the sheer number of players trying to connect as well as internal load balancing issues.

“Matchmaking software encountered an unexpected error, which made it unable to cope with the massive flow of players,” says the key. “The issue caused an unrecoverable state for Starbreeze’s third-party matchmaking partner.”
