Alice in Borderland season 2 becomes Netflix’ most-watched Japanese show in four days

Two-days series of Alice in Borderland has overtaken Squid Game to become the most watched Japanese show within the first week of release. It took only four days to complete that feat.

Alice in Borderland is now the most popular Japanese show available on Netflix.

The series made its debut on December 22 – and over the weekend, 61.2 million hours of viewing had been awarded. This number helped to figure out the top 10 list of most-watched TV series of not-English origin. Alice in Borderlands earned top 10-list of 90 countries, including Canada, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan.

What more? Many shows existing fans looking to refresh their memories, and new fans who wanted to catch up on previous events reported that a total of 18,6 million viewers per day spent in the same four-day period. This figure tied the first season in the list of most professional television series and placed second in the global Top 10 list and then, in 31 countries, on the Top 10 list. When combined, both Alice and Borderlands seasons have reached combined 80 million viewing hours.

After the second half of Alice in Borderland hit the streaming platform, Squid Game held the record for the most watched Netflix Japanese series with 63 million viewing hours. It won the most watched TV show, which has been featured several months since its release in September 2021. Though Alice in Borderlands combined hours has beaten the first-week Squid Games, it’s too early for us to find out whether it will beat those months-long streaks.

It’s still unclear if Alice in Borderland can replicate Squid Games’ feat of being the most viewed non-English show for several months.

Alice in Borderland is a Japanese sci-fi thriller drama series set up by Haro Uso. It focuses on a group of friends who had been transported to a dangerous parallel dimension called the Borderlands where they were required to compete in dangerous games, test their friendships and their will to survive with failures.

During the interview where he talked about the new series, the show director said that it was life and death battle. In his words, “Life and death have a battle.” These guys aren’t warriors. They are not soldiers or heroes. They’re just regular people in Tokyo. They thought it would be great to stand them up to the fights as heroes when they get up and finish this chaotic game.

Both Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya take part in Ryohei Arisu and Yuzuha Usagi as lead characters. Njiro Murakami, Ayaka Miyoshi, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, Yuki Morinaga, Keita Machida and Sho Aoyagi reprise their roles as Ryohei Arisu, Shuntaro Chishiya, Ann Rizuna, Suguru Niragi, Hikari Kuina, Chota Segawa, Daikichi Karube, and Morizono Aguni respectively. The series features new actors, including Tomohisa Yamashita, Ryohei Shima, Eishin, Hayato Isomura, Maiguma Katsuya, and Kai Inowaki.

Alice in Borderlands’ first and second seasons are streaming on Netflix.
