Apple is reportedly making some changes to Vision Pro sales; May add Apple Intelligence support

Published on

According to reports, the launch of the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset at the beginning of the year was not a sales success for the company, even if Apple itself will not admit this fact. The low sales of the $3,499 product have reportedly prompted Apple to focus on making cheaper headphones for the future, but it may not be released until at least the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, Apple still wants to push the current Vision Pro headphones to more customers. Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman, his Weekly Power On newsletterApple is said to be making some changes to its retail stores specifically to help boost Vision Pro sales.

One of the reported changes is that Apple now allows store visitors to view their own photos and videos on the Vision Pro demo units. The thinking is that checking out their content on headphones could help sway some reluctant buyers. Gorman says this change is rolling out now and will officially launch in Apple stores on July 9.

Another change is that Vision Pro users in Apple stores will use the Dual Loop headband by default. The previous default, Solo Loop, was probably not convenient enough to use. However, we wonder why it took several months after the headphones were launched for Apple to discover this rather basic flaw.

Finally, the report claims Apple Store customers will have the option to try the Vision Pro for longer periods in specific areas, such as at work or watching movies.

In the same newsletter, Gorman also reports, via unnamed sources, that Apple is working to bring its recently announced AI service, Apple Intelligence, to the Vision Pro. However, don’t expect the headset to get this update in 2024. Indeed, Gorman isn’t revealing a timeline for the Vision Pro to get Apple Intelligence.
