The latest industry report from market analysts Circana (formerly NPG Group). Madden NFL 24 was the best-selling video game in August 2023 in the United States. Electronic Arts’ annual NFL franchise topped the charts this month.
In second place is FromSoftware’s mechanics game Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. Both titles also immediately broke into the annual top 20 bestseller list.
Another striking title, Baldor gate 3 From Larian Studios, saw more than 800,000 concurrent players on Steam when it launched on PC earlier this month. However, as a digital-only release, this may not be reflected in Circana’s retail sales tracking.

Also, the PlayStation 5 was reported as the best-selling console in both dollars and units shipped last month. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S came in second.
On the mobile side, Monopoly Go It topped the charts as the highest grossing mobile game. It transcends royal matchwhich previously held first place. Pokemon Go Move up and push coin artist from the first five rankings. Activision-Blizzard used to have two rated games, but is now down to just one, Candy Crush Sagasince Call of Duty: Mobile Dropped from the ranking.
Circana’s report shows that total consumer spending on video games, hardware and accessories increased 3% year-over-year to $4.2 billion in August. Content and accessories saw an increase in spending while hardware declined.
In some big holiday titles like Modern Warfare 2 and Hogwarts legacy Remaining on the annual bestseller list, August showcased the strength of annual sports franchises and new releases such as Armored Core VI to lead the industry at the end of the summer.
