To identify others with the disease and gain insight into possible side effects, they joined a Facebook group. An expert they saw in Chicago advised them to expand the "good" skin surgically to cover the nevus. Doctor-placed expanders are injected with saline solution once weekly in a home procedure. Kaitlyn and Tim have been concerned about James' wellbeing during this process, and they report that he is much more content and at ease now that the growth has been removed. They believe they'd rather be scarred from the ordeal than have to cope with the masses any day....
