It is a PS5 exclusive for three months, but there’s no guarantee Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will move on to Xbox later.

As underwhelming as State of Play last night, the new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer at least revealed a lot of new info and teases for fans to pore over.

In its wake, the Square Enix shared further details that Sony omitted from the show, such as a 350 collectors edition with a 19-inch statue of Sephiroth.

Perhaps the most interesting addition is the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won’t be a PlayStation 5 exclusively for long. One swag of the ‘Victure’, where Square Enix uploaded the trailer, revealed the game isn’t available on any other platform at least until May 29, 2004 just three months after its launch.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake, too, was a timed PlayStation exclusive, but pre-release material stated that its exclusivity plan was due for a whole year.

Who believes Rebirth’s timed exclusivity is so much shorter is guessable, but it might be good to say that you won’t have to wait for the next port with no longer waiting for the next.

It seems that this doesn’t mean that a PC will drop in early June or anything. In fact, the Remakes PC port took 20 months to arrive after the original launch and given that Rebirth is a considerably larger game, it wouldn’t surprise me if it wasn’t until 2025.

The Xbox One would hardly ever ever use a Rebirth port.

Microsoft even claimed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will never come to Xbox thanks to Sonys deal with Square Enix, although that was when they were trying to exaggerate their position for Activision Blizzard monopoly investigators.

Kiryu: As CEO of Square Enix, we want to continue the delivery of fantastic games to the fans across the globe. We’d like to welcome the Xbox community, too. Starting with the announcement today, and all the time, we’re planning on going onboard the Xbox game which players are able to enjoy.

There were many Square Enix games that haven’t recently come to Xbox, though the games were still all available, such as the Octopath Traveler 2 and the Theatrhythm Final Bar Line.

It appears to be that time is about to change. In July of last year, Square Enix announced that its critically acclaimed online game Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Xbox, and CEO Takashi Kiryu said that whenever possible, we are planning to bring our games to Xbox for the players to enjoy.

You must be waiting and see whether this extends to Final Fantasy 7 games, but there is still the option to switch 2.

In my opinion, though, that next console could push as good as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, rumours have already suggested that Square Enix has been running on Final Fantasy Remake as a PS5 game.

Indeed, the leaker was probably vague on the exact sort of game they were talking about, but instead as they only refered to it as FF7R, which could be either the two games.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is now in use for PlayStation 5, February 29 – 2024.
