Google Meet now has live French and English translations

Published on

Google added live translation support for Google Meet back in September 2021. Consequently, the feature has helped users overcome language barriers in meetings. English pronunciation has been seamlessly translated to French, German, Portuguese and Spanish.

This feature was limited to translating and video-recapitulating English in many languages. Previously, Google has added support for all languages, along with support for translating speech from other languages in English live captions.

German words can now be translated and live captioned in three new languages, namely Japanese, Mandarin and Swedish, while French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish words can be translated and live captioned in English.

It is worth noting that the new language supports is still in beta, so some hiccups exist, but that feature ought to work as intended for the most part.

The functionality will be available for Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus and the Learning Upgrade. The feature will now be available to users in the next few days. Read more here.
