Google’s Find My Device network is reportedly expanding outside of the US and Canada

Google’s Find My Device network appears to have started rolling out to some users outside of the US and Canada. At least two Android users posted on social media that they were able to get a taste of Google’s Find My Device network, according to Android Authority’s Mishal Rahman.

One of the users, based in Japan, shared Screenshot of Monday’s feature. This was followed by multiple screenshots from X user @willza3 in the UK, revealing that they received an opt-in message to join the network and set up devices.

Google introduced Find My Device Network during the Google I/O 2023 developer conference. The company announced last month that its crowdsourcing network is rolling out to Android devices “around the world, starting in the US and Canada.”

The launch was delayed because Google was waiting for Apple to bake unknown tracker notifications into iOS. There was inconvenience and lawsuits after the launch of AirTag because bad actors were able to repurpose Apple’s Bluetooth Tracker as a tracking device.

Although there has been no official word from the company, these are among the first user reports of the Find My Device network expanding to other regions. Rahman suspects that Google may have pushed the service to these users by mistake or that the company is moving too slowly in hopes of identifying potential hiccups before the global rollout.

Find My Device brings offline tracking to Google’s Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, so the devices can be found online even when they’re turned off. Google has confirmed that it will bring the functionality to other Android phones as well.

What’s more, a number of third-party headphones and trackers that support Bluetooth can be found through Google’s network. Device maker Pebblebee told Rahman that its Bluetooth trackers will launch worldwide “as early as May 27,” suggesting the full rollout of the Find My Device network should be completed before the end of May.
