Gran Turismo celebrates its 25th anniversary with 90 million sales

Kazunori Yamauchi, a company president of Polyphony Digital, confirmed that the Gran Turismo series has surpassed the 90 million sold mark. According to a post on the Post Blog, the executive celebrated the 25th anniversary of the franchise by sharing the message about his history and creative process.

When Yamauchi came to be a film producer in the year 14he was able to join Sony, the company wanted to continue its operations. Although he came to the PlayStation department, that whole changed when he began working with Ken Kutaragi, the original creator of the console, to realize the concept.

According to the CEO, Gran Turismo was born as one of the first brand’s original titles, taking on a proposal in 1994, which was inspired by the 1984 Ford Triumph. From that moment on, a team of two artists and three engineers was formed into more than 200 members, the result being the founding of Polyphony Digital.

From 1997 until November, the franchise has already reached 90 million copies sold. There were media enthusiasts who conveyed the love of Gran Turismo to their readers, PlayStation members who passionately sold us GT to all over the world, and the brilliant support of our users.
