After the initiation of the DLSS 3 frame generation mods for Red Dead Redemption 2 and the recent Starfield mod developed by the Chinese modder PureDark, a hacker, who wasn’t very happy with the modders decision, decided to hack the Starfield mod which has VMProtect protection and its own DRM. This means that the Mod needed to enter a Discord server when starting the game.
Before DRM was implemented, many modder patreons mentioned they would stop paying for the mod if it hadn’t removed the DRM, which PureDark didn’t do. Many then agreed to abandon their subscription, which allowed them to access the mods.
As you can see in the comparison video recorded by the modder in New Atlantis, one of the most demanding cities in the game, the game doesn’t have the best performance. With the support of an RTX 4070 Ti and Ryzen 5 5600x, PureDark increased the average speed from 50fps to 100fps with the frame generation capability; the free DLSS 2 mod has a better performance than AMD’s FSR2.
