Losing a save file by mistake is every trainer’s worst dream in a Pokémon game. Whether it’s because files got corrupted, the game randomly crashed, or the autosave feature didn’t work efficiently, losing a save file you’ve invested many hours on will always be hard to stomach. Fortunately, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet come with a hidden feature that continues to back up your save data and is easily accessible in case you lose your save file.

How to Recover Lost Save Files in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
If you’re one of the unfortunate trainers who has lost a save file for some reason, you don’t have to worry, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has a hidden feature that allows you to load your latest backup without much hassle. Note that this is not to be confused with the auto save feature, also present in the game.
To access your backup save data in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, simply press the X, B, and UP keys on the D-Pad simultaneously while on the title screen. This will open another screen showing a bunch of details of your save file. Here, click the “Start from backup data” option at the bottom right of the screen, and your save file will be loaded.
While the feature is useful when your manual save or auto save option fails to load the game, don’t expect it to be very accurate. So if your game crashes abruptly and you use this feature, your game probably won’t start from the exact position where it crashed. Taken together, this is a fantastic step by Nintendo to ensure you don’t lose your progress out of the blue.
