Activision Blizzard reported that overwatch 2 engagement and player investment had reduced over the past quarter. According to the executive producer Jared Neuss, the falling player numbers are hardly a problem and should be treated as a normal ebb and a flow of players.

Invasion will likely increase the player number.

Overwatch 2: Invasion is the sixth season of the game, launched yesterday, August 10. Among the new content is new hero Illari, a new Flashpoint game mode, the advanced Invasion Battle missions and a new battle pass. For the same release, the publisher explained that it’s expecting the largest seasonal update on the market to increase the player’s number. However, Neuss downplayed that large season was a do-or-die moment for the shooter in an interview with IGN and with more and more team figuring out how to get off its seasonal offerings.

There’s something interesting, that we stacked a whole lot of content on Overwatch 2. We did that because we experimenting with different seasonal structures, and one of the things we really wanted to try was: what if we just put together all that big stuff, those amazing additions, and different expressions of the game?

That’s not like a, there’s so much riding on this kind of thing for us. What is good season for us? We’ve tried a bunch of things, haven’t you? We tried a really theme-oriented approach with Season 5. We have tried different things in Season two and 3.

He put on another claim that the team is worried about what he thought dubbed the normal fluctuation in player numbers for a free-to-play game.

Our low wages mean you’re actually a free play game. The chances are easy to come to the game, check it out and go to another place, says Neuss. We have normal ebbs and a flow of players. There is nothing about that to me or the team.

Unfortunately for Blizzard, player reaction to the match hasn’t improved to more with Season 6. Overwatch 2 launched on Steam on August 10th and gotten a SuperNative rating from the players quickly. The most common criticism is lack of PvE mode, which was reduced to make space for smaller story missions. The cost of the character missions and limited ways players can unlock heroes are two other significant complaints being leveled at the sequel.
