Is Batman in Love with Joker?

Published on

Batman and Joker’s rivalry is one of the most iconic in comic book history. Some believe it’s because of Joker’s obsession with Batman, but it seems that the Dark Knight is equally obsessed with his archenemy. In a recent issue of Batman, our hero finds himself in a world without a Batman, and without a Joker, or so he thought. Instead, he discovers that Doctor Darwin Halliday, aka Red Mask, is this world’s version of the Joker. Batman fights his way to Halliday, realizing that he is just as obsessed with Joker as Punchline is.

Their relationship is complex, with Joker’s obsession running deep enough for him to wear his own Batsuits. Batman, however, tries not to give Joker any special treatment. He treats him as just another villain, but their connection is undeniable. Perhaps it’s because of Joker’s “one bad day” theory that links them, or it’s been suggested that Bruce feels a strange kinship with Joker. Whatever the reason, Batman finally admits his obsession with Joker.

In other story arcs, Batman’s obsession with Joker has destroyed his relationships with the Bat-Family. In Death of the Family, evidence surfaces that Joker has entered the Batcave and learned everyone’s secret identities. Bruce insists Joker would never do that, but as Joker begins attacking his allies, Bruce’s obsession ends up destroying any faith his teammates have in him.

It’s clear that Batman and Joker’s rivalry will continue for years to come. While some may think it’s just Joker’s obsession, it’s actually much darker. Batman is just as obsessed with Joker as he is with Batman.
