If you’re connected to the indie video game scene, then you might have some mixed titles on your mind right now. Soccer Story, a game with a title very similar to Golf Story, will be released soon. In fact, it’s so similar that you might think it’s a sequel, but is it really?
Is Soccer Story a continuation of Golf Story?
The short answer is no, Soccer Story is not a sequel to 2017’s beloved indie game Golf Story. They are similar games though: both are sports-based RPGs that are more about silly quests tied loosely to competition rather than focusing on the fundamentals of the sport itself. They also share similar art styles, though Soccer Story leans more towards voxels than a pure 16-bit look.
One of the main differences is that Soccer Story will be available on multiple platforms. Its release date is Tuesday, November 29, and it will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Windows Store. In case you were wondering, yes: Soccer Story will also be available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC on launch day. Golf Story, on the other hand, has remained a Nintendo Switch exclusive since its debut in 2017.

Does Golf Story have a sequel?
Soccer Story may not be related to Golf Story, but the latter does have a sequel. It’s called Sports Story, and it’s also coming this year. While we don’t have a specific release day yet, the Sports Story release date will be sometime in December. The first game focused on golf and a few related activities like disc golf and a driving range, but the follow-up is casting a wide net with tennis, BMX, volleyball, fishing, and yes, soccer too. Soccer Story is not a sequel to Golf Story, but Sports Story is, and it also includes soccer. The confusion about the three games is very understandable.
