American entrepreneur Jack Dorsey is no longer part of Bluesky’s board of directors. Dorsey confirmed the departure while replying to a user on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

With Jack’s departure, we are looking for a new board member for Bluesky Public Benefit Company who shares our commitment to building a social network that empowers people to control their own experience. More to come!

However, BlueSky has yet to update the details in the FAQ on its website, which still lists Dorsey as part of the board. Meanwhile, the founder of Twitter may deleted His Bluesky account sometime last year.

Bluesky started as an internal project led by Dorsey under the umbrella of Twitter (now X) More in 2019. It later became an independent company with Jay Graber taking over as CEO.

Over the years, the company has invested time and money in building an open protocol for decentralized social media, followed by its own social network. Bluesky was available by invitation only until earlier this year, when it opened its doors to everyone.

The social network took about a day to add a million new users, bringing its total user count to four million. As of May 2024, Bluesky has over 5.5 million users on its platform.
