Comedic actor Jonah Hill had his big break in the mid-2000s with the release of Superbad. Hill, who had spent years playing comedic supporting roles in films, decided it was time to switch things up. He declined a hefty paycheck to feature in The Hangover films because he didn’t want to be labeled as a “comedic actor.” Hill understood he had to work hard if he wanted to prove his acting chops in serious parts, but he was determined to do so. He decided to branch out and try different types of acting, and it paid off when he was nominated for an Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor” in two different films (Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street). Hill doesn’t appear to be remorseful about turning down a substantial offer from The Hangover film series. He didn’t want to spend the rest of his career as just “The Guy from Superbad” and he was eager to test his acting chops. Hill sacrificed a substantial salary, but he was able to show off his range as an actor by taking on a variety of parts.
