Josh Sawyer commented that Priests are unpopular among the players in Baldurs Gate 3 – it’s always the same way – that has always been it

The oldest of the Baldurs Gate threes least popular class is the Priest, aka Cleric and aka Priest, and one of the veteran CRPG developers claims this has nothing to do with its behaviour in the 4th, 4, 3rd, fifth Edition rules.

One week after the games released, Larian Studios published a series of statistics that detail various players’ statistics. The most popular class was paladin followed by sorcerer and mage. And the top of all the classes took almost the same fourth place. Except, of course, for the cleric, who ended up in last place by an unexpectedly large margin. Three weeks after the release, the situation hasn’t changed.

This data made me laugh because of a veteran PC RPG developer, Josh Sawyer, who has worked on everything from old D&D like Icewind Dale to beloved Fallout: New Vegas and the relatively recent Pillars of Eternity. In response to this joke quickly became an interesting piece of information, about how game players have chosen their classes over the years.

In my experience, that doesn’t have any relevance to BG3 or 5E features, people usually don’t make the cleric/priests the main characters in fantasy RPGs. I ranked the least in fantasy RPGs I made, Sawyer said. Those who played the most often in TTRPG and CRPG were the clerics.

Man may guess why clerics are rarely used to be chosen. It could be because nobody wants that character they created the protagonist of the story to be perceived as a support class. Of course, you have to remember that there are no support classes in D&D, and a cleric, in particular, can be incredibly talented of all levels, both wailing and healing.

Since I was thinking about the prank at Sawyer, Clerics are a lot of fun to play, although play is very enjoyable for many, so players don’t often choose them as secondary characters.
