Ben Mendelsohn, who won an Emmy for his role in “Bloodline,” has pledged that the new Marvel series “Secret Invasion” on Disney+ would live up to its name. Mendelsohn is best recognized for his work in “Bloodline.” Mendelsohn will be appearing on the program with his “Captain Marvel” co-star Samuel L. Jackson, which will make its debut on June 21. Jackson will be seen playing the character of Nick Fury, a superspy who has returned from space to stop a gang of Skrulls with green skin who are attempting to infiltrate places of power all around the earth. Even if there are alien entities involved, “Secret Invasion” is still very much an old-school Cold War paranoia thriller with a Marvel superhero twist, according to Mendelsohn, who portrays the Skrull good guy Talos in the film. The actor goes on to describe the series as “mental” and expresses his hope that it will become one of Marvel’s most interesting endeavors. The storyline of “Secret Invasion” has its origins in the scenario of the 2019 film “Captain Marvel,” in which Talos and his crew of Skrulls arrived to Earth disguised as humans, leading Nick Fury and Carol Danvers to believe that they were evil. However, they were actually refugees from another part of the universe looking for a new home. An extreme group among the Skrulls decides to take matters into their own hands while “Secret Invasion” is getting underway because the objective of the Skrulls to discover a new home has not been accomplished. Along with Fury’s fellow ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague Maria Hill, the season also sees the return of Avenger James Rhodes and former CIA agent Everett Ross. Olivia Colman will play the role of MI6 spy Sonya Falsworth, while Kingsley Ben-Adir will take on the role of Gravik, an opponent for the Skrulls. The preview shows Gravik multiplying himself in a clever and potentially hazardous way, yet Talos appears unfazed by this development. Mendelsohn reveals that Talos is dedicated to making things function on Earth, but following the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” the planet is trying to settle in a post-Thanos reality, which makes things tough. Talos is devoted to making things work on Earth. With the destiny of the Earth hanging in the balance, “Secret Invasion” promises to be an exciting and thrilling addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Talos wants Fury to take charge of the situation.
