Meta is working to improve cross-posting between Threads and Instagram

Meta is preparing a new swap button that allows you to cross-reference images from Instagram to text-based Threads. TechCrunch reports that the company is testing the feature globally and it’s available as an “opt-in experience” that users can disable at any point.

Some users have posted screenshots of a cross-posting toggle button called “Share in Threads” in the Instagram app on android and iOS. “On my personal account, using an Android device, I can see that the ability to post from Instagram to Threads is possible!” User wrote.

Meta told the publication that when users cross-reference photos from Instagram to Threads, their caption becomes the text of the Threads post and the hashtags are converted to plain text. This is probably because Threads doesn’t support as many hashtags as Instagram and other social media apps.

A limitation that comes with the feature is that it only allows sharing photos from Instagram to Threads for now and not Reels, according to the report. Nevertheless, the swap button adds to the list of features that have been reviewed threads such as automatic archiving of old posts, real-time search results and more.

Speaking of cross-posting, you can cross-post content from Threads to Instagram right now. For example, you can share Post threads on Instagram as a story or make it part of your feed. What’s more, Meta also tested cross-posts from Facebook to Threads in a similar manner earlier this year, according to the report.

Threads was launched in July last year, and since then, the social media giant has been deploying various tricks to increase engagement with its rival X (formerly Twitter). Meta allowed users to sign up for Threads using their Instagram account and pre-follow users who hadn’t joined the platform.

The company began putting Threads post carousels on Facebook and Instagram feeds with a link to jump directly to the app. Furthermore, down also Presents Thread post notifications in the Instagram app.
