Microsoft 365 Insiders can try a new default paste setting in Word for Windows

Published on

Obviously, the Word for Windows app allows users to paste content from other documents or web pages into a Word document. There are several different options for pasting, but the default pasting setting is currently Keep Original Formatting. As the name suggests, this setting keeps all layouts, colors, and fonts of the content unchanged when placed in a Word document.

However, Microsoft has received feedback from many Word for Windows users that the default Keep Original Format setting is not working for them. today the The Microsoft 365 Insiders blog announced that program members can try a version of Word for Windows with the default merge setting for the application.

While using the Preserve Source Formatting setting preserves everything about content pasted from external sources into Word, the Merge Formatting option changes the content so that it preserves most of the formatting, such as whether words are bold, underlined, and more. However, it changes other aspects of the design, such as the font, text size, and colors, to match the rest of the document.

Associates can change the default Paste setting themselves by signing into the Word for Windows application and then clicking file > options > advanced > Cut, copy and paste. They can then click on Infection from other programs down arrow Finally, they can select the Keep original design option in the list, then click OK to complete the reset.

Microsoft says this new option is available to Insiders using Word for Windows users running version 2405 (Build 17624.15020) and later. Keep in mind that the new default setting is only for Windows versions of the Word app. It’s not yet available for Word for Mac or the Word web app.
