The growing use of artificial intelligence Artificial intelligence in various ways has raised concerns about how hostile individuals and groups could use it to threaten the safety of children. Today, Microsoft and Google committed to new child safety commitments for their generative artificial intelligence services.

The two companies and others arrived at these new commitments in collaboration with two groups. One is called thorn, which is a non-profit organization that tries to fight child sexual abuse. The second is named All technology is humanwhich was created to help create a “responsible technological ecosystem”.

Microsoft blog postt stated that it will develop generative AI models that will not be trained on datasets that contain child sexual or exploitative material. This will also help protect these models from this type of content once they are released.

The blog post added:

Today’s commitment marks a significant step forward in preventing the misuse of artificial intelligence technologies to create or distribute child sexual abuse material (AIG-CSAM) and other forms of child sexual abuse. This collective action underscores the tech industry’s approach to child safety, and demonstrates a shared commitment to ethical innovation and the well-being of society’s most vulnerable members.

Google’s blog post This topic covers some of the same reasons as Microsoft in terms of its child safety commitments for its AI services. She added that she has her own team dedicated to finding content that indicates a child may be in danger. In addition, Google says it tries to find and remove content related to child sexual abuse and exploitation with “a combination of hash matching technology, artificial intelligence classifiers and human reviews.”

Finally, Google announced its support for several bills in the US Congress dealing with the protection of children from abuse and exploitation.
