Microsoft Teams preview users for Windows and the web can try custom sound alerts

Microsoft is testing a new feature for Teams users on Windows and on the web that could make a difference for the many notifications they can get from the online meeting and chat service every day.

in a post on The Microsoft 365 Insiders blogThe company says:

To help you stay focused, quickly prioritize tasks and messages, and avoid distractions, you can now adjust the sound in Teams notifications. You can assign different sounds to different types of notifications, such as urgent messages. Alternatively, you can mute the alert sounds when you’re busy or in a meeting.

People who signed up to test the Teams Public Preview builds can open Teams for Windows and on the web and click the three-dot icon to access the app’s settings. They can then go to Notifications and activity menu. After that, they can click on audible option and then they can start customizing the sounds for notifications.

God Play sounds with notifications The checkbox will allow users to choose from eight different options. You can preview each sound with to play button:

  • Default
  • atmosphere
  • push
  • tap
  • flick
  • pick
  • for a while
  • Ping

God Play sounds with urgent and priority contact alerts The checkbox includes four additional sound options for a specific type of message:

  • Default
  • Prioritize
  • escalate
  • alarms

There is also a Play sounds when I’m busy or in a meeting A checkbox that of course sends an audio message if users are in these certain states.

In addition to Teams Public Preview members, Microsoft 365 Targeted Edition members can also try out the new Teams feature for personalized sound notifications. No word on when this feature will roll out to all Teams users for Windows and the web. There’s also no word on when it will be available for other Teams platforms.
