Microsoft Teams Public Preview users can try out a new screen sharing viewer window

Published on

When people participate in a virtual meeting in Microsoft Teams, sometimes one of them will want to share their screen to create a presentation, show a video, or offer some other type of content. However, when they share their screen, they usually cannot see the reaction to their content from other team members.

Today, Microsoft announced that it is testing a new screen sharing feature in Teams called the Presenter Window. B Microsoft 365 Insider blog postThe company describes the new presenters feature:

It shows up to four meeting participants, both video and audio, as well as active speakers, raised hands, comments and previews of shared content. Meeting notifications are also easier to see, and appear in the center of the screen for you to act on.

The new feature is enabled when you join a Teams meeting and then select to share option, and then selecting screen or Window option. After that, the new presenter window should appear, as in the image above. This window can be moved to other parts of your screen. It can also be maximized or minimized.

Microsoft added:

If you’re sharing your screen or window and your camera is turned on, you can expand the self video tile at the bottom of a viewer window by clicking the arrow button. After expanding, you can minimize the self video tile again to free up space on the shared screen.

Currently, the viewer window feature is available to people signed up for Teams Public Preview or Microsoft 365 Targeted. The new feature now works with the new Teams app for Windows and Mac. The other people who attend Teams meetings, but don’t use the presenter window feature, won’t need to be part of the Teams public preview. No word yet on when this feature will be generally available.
