Microsoft Teams Public Preview users can try turning off notifications for channel posts

Published on

The Microsoft Teams development division continues to add small but still useful features for users who have signed up to receive public preview updates. This week, those people can try out a new feature for Windows and Mac versions of Teams that gives them control over whether or not they see notifications about posts in their Teams channel.

in a post on The Microsoft 365 Insider blogThe company says the new feature being introduced into the public preview version of Teams will allow users to opt-in or opt-out of receiving notifications about posts on their channel.

All they have to do is click the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of a Teams post. They need to see or you Turn off notifications or the Turn on notifications option. If they want to change this option to one or the other, they can select it in the menu.

While you have the option to turn off notifications for Teams posts, Microsoft’s blog post suggests a few reasons why users might want to turn on notifications for posts:

  • Real-time updates: Get notified when someone posts and get timely updates.
  • Visibility: Stay on top of ongoing channel discussions and activities, and quickly identify relevant content without manually checking the channel.
  • Collaboration: Keep everyone involved and updated on what’s going on.

In addition to Teams Public Preview members, members of Microsoft 365 Targeted edition versions can also try out the new notification options for posts. No word on when this feature will roll out to all Teams users for Windows and Mac versions. There’s also no word on when it will be available for other Teams platforms.

Earlier this week, Teams Public Preview users had a chance to check out the new custom notification sounds feature, which is available for Windows and web editions.
