Though peace is a component of New Ages, the tournament of Mortal Kombat still is very much a thing. You have characters like Raiden, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage and Kenshi participating in Earthrealm, competing against warriors like General Shao of Outworld. To be honest, Shang Tsung is unconfronted with his naive potential and deviously plots.

Besides the story, there is Invasion, where players explore board-like maps and RPG mechanics and battle opponents from other dimensions.
