Now that Wednesday is streaming on Netflix, viewers can see exactly what a TV show directed by the legendary Tim Burton is like. As it turns out, it’s a goofy, hair-raising gothic thriller that harkens back to the director’s glory days of the ’80s and early ’90s. While Burton only directed the first four episodes, he was heavily involved in bringing the show to life, even more. beyond the episodes he directed, as an executive producer. However, what comes next?

While Wednesday has yet to be renewed for a second season, viewers must be wondering if Burton would return to direct more episodes. While the answer isn’t concrete yet, it certainly sounds like the door is wide open for him to return to the series.

Warning: The following contains mild spoilers for Wednesday’s season 1 finale. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should stop reading now.

“We would love him for more and I think he would love to come back.” co-showrunner Al Gough told GameSpot. “He feels very connected to the show. He wanted to do all eight and there just wasn’t a logistical way to make that happen.”

Co-executive producer Miles Millar explained, “I was upset because I really wanted to do the last episode with the dead pilgrim… I really wanted to do the finale.”

Unfortunately, with the show filming in Romania, that just wasn’t possible. Yet even when he wasn’t on set, Burton was still creatively involved. “He’s been involved all the time with the visual effects,” said Millar. “We talk to him every week and he’s been an amazing collaborator. We couldn’t have asked for a better situation. You never know how these things are going to turn out. But with Tim, from the beginning, he felt very comfortable with us. He loved it. the idea that we had done Smallville, which is a show that I knew about. So I was really intrigued by the idea of telling long-form stories and going into the broadcast world in this way. So I think it’s been a really great for him. I think he definitely got back in it.”

It shouldn’t be too surprising that Burton was such a great fit to create the show. After all, who hasn’t dreamed of seeing what the mind behind movies like Batman, Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands could do with the Addams Family? Millar even admitted: “Tim told us that on Wednesday she would have been his high school girlfriend. That’s who he wanted to date.”

In fact, what kept him from directing previous Addams Family movies, according to Millar, was that he “didn’t want to do remakes.” The co-executive producer continued: “What he liked about this was a new take and a new chapter that hadn’t been told before. So he liked that idea.”

I hope you have more to say about this new chapter in future seasons of Wednesday. The series is now streaming on Netflix. Be sure to check out our detailed breakdown of the finale with showrunners Millar and Al Gough.
