Fire Emblem fans have been excited for the next game in the series ever since Engage was announced. Whether it’s memes about the protagonist’s two-color hair or hype about teaming up with warriors from previous games, there’s a lot to look forward to. The latest gameplay demo goes into more detail about those classic character summons.

Noble Commit to emblems, the deep-dive video gives an overview of two of the main systems in the game: Emblems and Engage (the name of the game is pretty straightforward in that regard). Units equipped with Emblem Rings can perform synchronized attacks with ghostly versions of classic characters like Marth, Roy, and Lucina. The Engage system takes this a step further, allowing your characters to merge with their summon: Shown here is a combination of the perennial hero Marth and Engage protagonist Alear. Activating these forms isn’t just for looks: using Engage means wielding weapons and special abilities. Combined units can also move much further across the battlefield.

After seeing those things in action in the new demo, you’re probably wondering how many different classic characters you can call upon. Beyond the aforementioned trio, Engage also includes Byleth (Three Houses), Celica (Shadows of Valentia), Corrin (Fates), Eirika (The Holy Stones), Ike (Path of Radiance), Leif (Thracia 776), Lyn (The Flaming Sword), Micaiah (Radiant Dawn) and Sigurd (Genealogy of the Holy War). Those are just the ones we know of so far, but Fire Emblem fans are sure to be able to find some favorites.

The next thing you’re probably wondering is, when is the Fire Emblem Engage release date? It will be released on Nintendo Switch on January 20, 2023. Two different editions are available to pre-order now. There is a standard edition, as well as a more expensive divine edition that includes the game in a steel box, art cards, an art book, and a poster.
