Nvidia to acquire GPU orchestration software vendor Run:ai

Published on

Nvidia has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Kubernetes-based workload management and orchestration software provider Run:ai. According to Nvidia, AI deployments become more complex when workloads are distributed across cloud, edge and on-premises data center infrastructure that Run:ai’s solutions solve.

Regarding the decision to acquire Run:ai, its CEO and founder said:

“Run:ai has been a close partner with NVIDIA since 2020 and we share a passion for helping our customers get the most out of their infrastructure. We are excited to join NVIDIA and look forward to continuing our journey together.”

An explanation of the benefits that customers can get from the Run:ai platform, in the NVIDIA list:

  • A central interface for managing shared computing infrastructure, enabling easier and faster access to complex AI workloads.
  • Functionality to add users, organize them under teams, provide access to cluster resources, control quotas, priorities and pools, and monitor and report on resource usage.
  • The ability to combine GPU processors and share computing power – from GPUs to multiple GPUs or multiple GPU nodes running on different clusters – for separate tasks.
  • Efficient utilization of GPU cluster resources, enabling customers to get more out of their computing investments.

For any customers using Run:ai’s platform, Nvidia said it will continue to offer the same products under the same business model for the immediate future. It will also continue to invest in Run:ai’s product roadmap but integrate those features into the Nvidia DGX Cloud.

With this acquisition, Nvidia hopes that customers will be able to benefit from better GPU utilization, improved GPU infrastructure management and greater flexibility from the open architecture. Neither Nvidia nor Run:ai gave any details about the acquisition such as how much the company is being bought for or when the acquisition is expected to close. The move should help NVIDIA strengthen its position as a leader in AI infrastructure.
