Orange Pi Zero 2W released an alternative to Raspberry Pi Zero 2W with 4GB of RAM

Published on

Orange Pi released a small single-board computer called the Zero 2W, as reported by CNX software. This is a slightly higher-performance alternative to the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, which debuted two years ago.

Let’s remind you that the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W is equipped with a chip with 4 Arm Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. In turn the Orange Pi Zero 2W is equipped with a faster Allwinner H618 processor and the same number of Arm Cortex-A53 cores, but its frequency has slowed to 1.5 GHz. The amount of RAM standard LPDDR4 can be 1, 1,5, 2 or 4 GB.

This graphic unit is made from an analog controller, Arm Mali G31, allowing for OpenGL ES 1.0/2.0/3.2, OpenCL 2.0, Vulkan 1.1. There’s a network of four different applications in the VPU platform: V10/Profile-2 (up to 6Kp30), H.265 HEVC MP-10 @ L5.1 (up to 6Kp30), H.264 AVC HP @ L5.1 (up to 4Kp30) and H.264 MVC (up to 1080p60). The micro-sampled input connector is provided for digital printing.

The new product includes: Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 adapters, two USB 2.0 Type-C ports, a microSD card slot, a 40-pin GPIO header compatible with Raspberry Pi (I2C, SPI, UART, PWM), and a 24-pin contact interface (two USB 2.0 ports, TV-out, audio-out, 100MbE, IR receiver input).

Power is provided via one of the USB 2.0 Type-C ports (5 V / 2 A). It is a 30 m tall weight, which is 12,5 g. The price, depending on the size of the RAM, varies between 13 and 24 dollars. For another five dollars, you can buy a auxiliary expansion card with a 3.5 mm audio jack, two USB 2.0 connectors, a RJ-45 jack for a network cable and an IR receiver.
