Twitter has recently made headlines owing to the elimination of the “Legacy” verification process, which provided users with a blue check mark if they were well-known figures in their respective fields. This modification was implemented to entice users to sign up for Twitter Blue, a paid service that grants access to the blue check. But Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, had his blue check mark removed and quickly begged Twitter’s CEO to reinstate it. Mahomes was relieved to see the green light restored to his profile two days later. When another athlete, LeBron James, was willing to lose his check mark rather than pay for Twitter Blue, the scenario was very different. It was then reported that Tesla CEO Elon Musk had paid for select customers to retain their blue check marks, although whether or not Mahomes was among them is unknown. Regardless, Mahomes is content with the result and glad to have the box back on his list.
