Picard makes a triumphant return in the latest Star Trek comeback story

Published on

Although Patrick Stewart has said that he would be open to reprising his role as Admiral Picard in the future, the finale of Star Trek: Picard effectively ended Jean-Luc Picard’s saga. Stewart may make guest appearances as the former Starfleet admiral, but it’s unlikely he’d commit to a full season. Outside of Starfleet, though, there are several fascinating possibilities for Picard’s return.

Picard’s interest in history and archaeology was a major theme throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation, although it was underdeveloped in the film. For his potential comeback in a 24th-century Star Trek series, this fascination with archaeology may make for a fascinating storyline.

The Independent Archaeologists Guild was first shown in Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 5. They were a group of freelancers whose mission was to recover and return stolen artifacts to their rightful owners. The two-part Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Gambit,” in which Picard confronts pirates plundering Romulan relics, is a good example of this idea in action. Admiral Picard has been a major benefactor to the non-profit Independent Archaeologists Guild, as shown in the series finale of Lower Decks.

With his history with the Independent Archaeologists Guild, Captain Picard might return to Star Trek: Lower Decks in the future. Picard’s appearance would be consistent with the series’ previous cameos by Star Trek canon veterans. Whether or whether there is a fascinating tale to tell involving Picard, the USS Cerritos crew, and the Independent Archaeologists Guild would be the primary considerations, along with Patrick Stewart’s availability to resume the role.

Mariner may have been involved in another relic liberation operation for the Guild, despite the fact that she returned to the USS Cerritos at the conclusion of season 3. This is because of her friendship with Petra Aberdeen. Since Lower Decks is set twenty years before the events of Star Trek: Picard, it would not detract from the conclusion of Picard’s story but instead provide a bonus adventure bringing together Mariner, Jean-Luc Picard, and Petra.

Patrick Stewart’s openness to playing Jean-Luc Picard again will be the deciding factor. Since he has worked as a voice actor before (for example, in American Dad! Stewart has worked in animation before, with both and The Emoji Movie to his credit. The physical demands of voice acting are lower than those of acting in a major television series like “Star Trek: Picard.” Therefore, it’s possible that Star Trek: Lower Decks has gently laid the ground for a future bonus adventure with Jean-Luc Picard by introducing the Independent Archaeologists Guild.
