After a few revealing revelations, Pokémon TCG Japan’s high-class setVSTAR Universe has finally been released. VSTAR Universe, available in Japan and operates in Japanese stores, is the foundation for the early 2023 English language special set, which closed out the Sword & Shield era, Crown Zenith. Like some previous special sets, VMAX Climax andShiny Star V,VSTAR Universe is usually a reprint set with a large Secret Rare section of chase cards. These chase cards are all that we thought were Alternative Art VSTARs, but that we now can firmly reveal as new cards. Pokémon TCG Japan has revealed new art rares and special art rares that riff on character rares and alternative (or Special) arts. Art Rares are Full Art cards that don’t have texture to paint beautiful and unique scenes using Pokemon. This is essentially the rarest book without trainers present. Then Special Art Rares take the same approach and add the V or VSTAR mechanic. This set includes Special Art Trainers and, for the first time ever, Gold Alternate Art VSTARs. It’s expected that this is the final set with Pokemon-V and VSTARs as 2023 will see the release of the Scarlet & Violet era which returns to the Pokémon ex-game. This is a gold/gold-needle-like art set today.

This gorgeous Arceus, which I mentioned before, is an all-new card type, and is one of the four ringing gold pieces of the Universe from the artistAKIRA EGAWA. The EGAWA industry has become one of the most important artists of all age due to its detailed, painterly style since he made his debut in Sun & Moon Unified Minds. Some of the more memorable EGAWA cards are Blaziken V and Celebi V fromSword & Shield Chilling Reign, Umbreon VMAX from Sword & Shield Evolving Skies,Chandelure VMAX and Mew VMAX,Shift Opticality from Sword & Shield New Earth,Sword & Shield Lights,Sword & Shield Lights,Blissey

EGAWA’s stunning Arceus card will connect with Gold Aged Arts featuring Origin Forme Dialga, Origin Forme Palkia and Giratina.

Japanese sets often give us early ideas on what English-language sets are sometimes included, so keep watching our coverage. You can watch the previews of the VSTAR Universe cards as well as updates to all Pokemon TCG here at Bleeding Cool.
