One of the recent updates to Microsoft Edge introduced new Copilot pop-ups that appear on the screen when you select text. This popup is part of the latest text editing tools that Microsoft introduced for its browser a few days ago.
Clicking on the popup prompts Copilot to reword the highlighted part of the text and lets you customize the result with different shades, formats, and lengths. Similar features exist in Microsoft’s SwiftKey keyboard on iOS and Android.
Of course, not everyone is happy with Microsoft Edge displaying a banner on text selection. Users are already complaining about it and looking for how to turn off the “Rewrite with Copilot” popup in Microsoft Edge. Fortunately, the solution is very simple, and it only requires a few clicks in the Settings app. Here’s how to do it:
- Launch Microsoft Edge and open (three dots) menu > Settings.
- Go to the Languages ​​section. Alternatively, type edge://settings/languages in the address bar and press Enter.
- Scroll down to “Help with writing“section.
- turn off the “Use Compose (AI writing) on ​​the web” feature.
- Enjoy the user interface without unread banners.
Microsoft has invested heavily in Copilot and its underlying technology, so its attempts to ensure every user knows about AI-powered features are anything but surprising. Unfortunately, the way Microsoft pushes these features to end customers is often annoying, to say the least. The company could have made the “Rewrite with Copilot” option less intrusive by adding it to the context menu, the desired place for common actions.
