It’s hard not to hear about a new Pokemon release, even if he was actively trying. So if you’re here? We bet you know at least something about pokemon purple Y Scarlet Pokemon. The new headlines. The open world concept. The… challenging technical state. And hey, all of that is true. But how does it all hold together as an experience, and how difficult is the technology as we move away from launch day?
In pokemon purple Y Scarlet, you play the role of a student, though really in name only. Everything about the game strays from this premise, using the school only as a hub from which to start your expeditions. Students? They can be whoever they are, from young children to gray-haired seniors like us. (We’d love to see Game Freak take this opportunity to allow older players to appear in-game that way, but… no.)
The actual classes are largely a waste of time and you don’t have to attend them. You get no grades! Nobody seems to graduate! And if “find your treasure” is the length of the curriculum, it certainly sounds like the academy is a waste of space and resources.
What’s more, the “two versions” premise has never been as thin as paper. We’re not sure why it was important to have separate academies if they were identical, existed in separate realities, and just changed the color everyone had to wear. The only exclusive versions, outside of post-game content, are older creatures; all new designs are available in both. We understand the financial incentive of the approach, but future versions simply need to justify their existence better than this.
The structure of pokemon purple Y ScarletVery similar Pokemon Legends Arceus, makes you want to “catch ’em all” in a way that previous games just didn’t. Catching feels easier, and every visible monster in the overworld means you can walk right into what you want and dodge what you don’t.
The way Trainer Battles work has also changed. Instead of looking into your eyes, you have to actively choose to reach out and challenge someone. This removes some frustration, but the lack of tension means everything becomes more and more fluid. This has been a trend since pokemon x Y Y! Each mainline entry polished off the rough edges further, taking an interesting gameplay texture with it. The Pokemon Company being actively hostile towards the notion of difficulty in their games is nothing new, but anyone hoping for a change of course should reconsider.
The open world approach? Yes, it works, for the most part. It’s a bit aimless at times, and the structure leads to some serious level spikes near the end of the game, as it keeps most of the world accessible without a solid level scaling system to make it work a little better. It’s fun to wander around and find things though, and movement eventually feels as satisfying as legends.
While the Pokémon themselves have been cute and endearing from the start, pokemon purple Y Scarlet they manage to present a world of characters who earn our genuine empathy much more often than their recent predecessors. The characterizations are still pretty paper-thin, but its central cast still manages some people we really like. We’ll avoid spoilers so you can experience things for yourself, but one Gym Leader in particular was extremely relatable. And Arven’s story? Boy.
However, we cannot stop talking about technological problems. We experienced complete freezes, massive slowdowns, and the incredibly obvious visual degradations to get Game Freak’s open-world setting running at a decent speed. Images were a similar problem in legends, so you know if you care about that. Here, however, there are more items in the mid to far range to make the incredibly slow animation countermeasures activate.
The crash and such? It’s a bigger problem. Alternate releases with a new outsourced version, such as bright diamond Y shiny pearl, is a setup many larger franchises use to gain more development time. But instead? Game Freak done Pokemon Legends: Arceus. There isn’t enough time left to successfully create a full entry! There is probably too much money at stake, but a legends expansion pass for holiday 2022 and these delayed games to next year might have been the best call for stability.
Scarlet Y Violet It frontloads a lot of the technical issues, with crowded environments and story sequences. Very similar legends, most of these games take place in open areas. They certainly can be sparse and bland! But generally, the game plays out as desired in these zones.
Game Freak tried to prevent many of the smart changes legends! How to change movement at any time. But implement the new stuff and retain the old stuff at the same time? Normal battles in irregular environments that cause a lot of clipping and other visual problems. Quick battles in Overworld so you can keep moving, but tech limitations restrict your movement radius before they cancel and the monster returns. This is just ambitious, and it’s no surprise that it breaks so much.
pokemon purple Y Scarlet Pokemon they certainly don’t put their best feet forward. They run hard. The visual degradations are clear. But ultimately, once you settle in, they’re certainly full. Pokemon games. We hope some post-launch bug fixes will help them run better, but in the long term, The Pokemon Company might need to implement a plan that gives Game Freak longer development windows for blockbuster releases.
Scarlet Pokemon Y pokemon purple released on November 18, 2022. Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, it is available on the nintendo switch.
