Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart came out on PC, suggesting that the PS5 might load its portal scene faster than a high-end PC. If we told you that the PC can load the portal site faster than the PS5 as far as it has gone. Fear not, scratch it. What if we told him that the game runs faster on PC than on PS5, even without using DirectStorage?

Compusemble discovered that by simply deleting the cache.pso file from the games folder, gamers can get better results. When Compusemble deleted this file, its PC system (an AMD Ryzen 7700X with 32GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT) was able to load the portal scene faster than the PS5.

Apart from this, I can still read from the atops of the dragon. Watch this video on YouTube.

Compusemble has gone a step further and enabled DirectStorage completely. And even without DirectStorage, the PC was able to run the portal scene faster than the PS5.

Is directStorage required for a PC to load Ratchet & Clank faster than the PS5?

What that means is that there’s no secret sauce in which the PS5 is sloppy – it’s good enough to be able to run better than high-end computers. But none of this is the solution of PS5s dedicatedhardware decompression.

This article is intended to remove the wrong assumptions. Because honestly, all this has become a big farce.

At first, when Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart was still a PS5 exclusive, we were hearing about how revolutionary the PS5 was. Then the story changed when the game was on PC. Suddenly people began to claim the PS5s dedicated hardware decompression tech was so powerful that it could run the portal scene faster than high-end PCs. Even though we had previously stated, the assumption was ignored.

Accordingly, high-end PCs are faster than PS5, even without DirectStorage. And, since I am honest, it shouldn’t surprise you. Current high-end PCs do not actually benefit from DirectStorages GPU decompression. That is because most high-end GPUs are powerful enough to handle DirectStorage. We were so impressed with Rift apart from Forspoken. On the other hand, DirectStorages GPU decompression is beneficial for low and mid-tier PC systems. And that’s why developers should offer a direct-storage setting for developers to choose between the CPU and GPU decompression.
