Spelunky dev confirmed that new game UFO 50 isn’t in development with new screenshots

Derek Yu may be best known for his seminal indie roguelike Spelunky, and its similarly well-received 2020 sequel. That’s not all she’s been working on for the last few years, though. As well as a handful of others from the game Downwell and Time Barons, the Yus studio, Mossmouth, has also been working on a game (or rather a collection of games) called UFO 50. And even though many fans may have forgotten about it since it was announced it 2017, it looks like Mossmouth is still in a hard position on the intriguing concept.

In a tweet on December 30 Yu showed off a video game in progress with a message reading, and still working on it. There is nothing a little difficult to parse a screenshot of that, though this looks like a playlike that’s created from a hodgepodge of different tiles and icons. The idea behind UFO 50 is a 50-game collection which is not an obscure, 80s-based gaming company and then, the company’s newest addition would be made up of its own history.

The long dormant Steam page mentions that the UFO 50 is not just a collection of minigames, it’s entirely new, each of which is complete with their own title screen, intro and ending. One of the games presented is called Campanella 2, the sequel to Campanella (as part of the collection), which is an action platformer about a treasure hunter with UFO. Among the other words, a Grimstone, a JRPG set in the United States wild west, only its swallowed up by the wild West. In addition, many of the games will feature local multiplayer, from a mashup of pinball and golf known as Pingolf to a sci-fi horse race betting game known as Quibble Race.
