Stardew Valley Developer Eric Barone Describes How Diablo 2 Influenced a horded Chocolatier

The developer behind Stardew Valley, Eric Barone recently explained how Diablo 2 included the next Haunted Chocolatier, explaining how the game follows a number of main mechanics, most notably the loot system. Haunted Chocolatier is all about magical haunted ghost chocolate.

The news comes from a video interview that ScreenRant has had with Barone earlier this week. The developer sat down for the details of Haunted Chocolatier, talking about the first aspect of this game.

“When I was in the early stages of Haunted Chocolatier, I had a bunch of Diablo 2, explained Barone. Are you complaining and seeing your statistics on? I like it. I feel like a lot of Stardew Valley players are not into it, but I just need to do what I think is fun. And I think that’ll shine in the game if I’m excited about it.

The developer apparently wondered “What if I made a game like the mines of Stardew Valley, but was fully implemented and done really well?” According to Barone, the key to that game is actually gathering ingredients. That’s the biggest part of the game. The shop is a little more evasive.” Players will collect different ingredients from a variety of magical realms to craft their shops chocolates. Ghosts may be employed to help out, as well as some other type of management. There is an element for a similar type of simulator like the rollercoaster Tycoon or something where customers are tasked with having specific needs and wants, said Barone.

Barone is also playing World of Warcraft, but this apparently did little impact on how the game was started. The developer called World of Warcraft “a pity of guilt,” adding that nobody understands it, but one thing I have to say about World of Warcraft and Blizzard is they are actually good at making things really juicy.

That’ll make you a lot happy, told Barone. I tried to put it into Stardew valley with all the sound of having it picking up some stuff. Some things like gathering are satisfying in itself even if you think about it.

Haunted Chocolatier is currently in development and there is no release date. Barone explained that Stardew Valley took nearly five years to produce – Haunted Chocolatier being under development for under two years now.
