The new Microsoft Planner adds additional task features designed for front-line workers

Earlier in April, Microsoft started rolling out the redesigned version of the Planner app for Teams. It was designed to combine the features found in the older To Do, Planner and Project apps. It even got a redesigned icon.

Today, Microsoft announced some new features included in the revamped Planner app. All are designed to assist companies in assigning tasks to their frontline workers.

in a blog post, Microsoft said that one of the biggest requests from businesses that use Planner is to make it easier to define tasks that front-line workers will be required to complete, such as training goals or learning about new company policies. The post said this new feature was added as a new type of task list for each employee:

When publishing a task list for each team member, you can select the locations that should receive the task list, as usual. After you confirm the locations, a copy of each task in the list will be created for each employee in each of the selected locations. When these tasks are created for each employee, they will be created in the plan for the specific employee and not in the plan for the team. Once the list is published, you’ll have access to a simple report to track completion.

The new Planner app also allows companies to quickly assign recurring tasks to frontline workers, with options ranging from daily tasks to tasks that only happen once a year.

Companies can also set up the Planner app so employees can fill out a form and mark a task as complete. There are options for uploading a file, such as an image of the completed form, as a requirement to complete a task. Finally, Planner can be configured so that an employee must submit it for final approval to complete a task.

Microsoft plans to add more features to Planner, including support for Copilot, sometime in the near future.
