The new Towerborne dev interview shows how Truffleclub’s powerful monster was created

Microsoft not only has a number of first-party games it plans to release on Xbox and PC platforms in 2024, it also has several games it will publish from third-party developers through Xbox Games Studios. one of them is TowerborneA fantasy-themed action-adventure game from Stoic Games.

This week Stoic published a new key interview on the official Towerborne Website which featured the creation of one of the game’s enemy monsters. It’s called the Truffleclub, and despite its name and surface appearance, it looks like it’ll be a pretty formidable foe to defeat.

Stoic’s lead concept artist, Jeff Marchi, stated in an interview that they wanted the Truffle Club to look like a creature that would come from a mushroom-themed forest in the game. The creature was supposed to be a smasher in terms of its fighting style as well. He added:

One of the tricky aspects of character development (especially enemies) in Towerborn is creating a balance for a creature that is both terrifying and whimsical in appearance. We didn’t want designs that just felt creepy and scary.

The interview includes concept artwork along with some video showing how Stoic developed the look, moves and attacks for the Truffle Club. They too Post a video on YouTube Shows an early combat test for the creature. In addition to using his two large, cubic “hands” to crush player figures, he will also be able to tunnel underground and then re-emerge above ground to try to trick the player. It will also be able to spit what looks like drops of acid at players.
