Threads can now filter offensive words anywhere in the app

Instagram chief Adam Mosari has announced a slew of new features for the text-centric social media platform Meta. Threads is expanding its hidden words feature, which now works across feeds, searches, user profiles, and post replies.

The hidden words feature in Threads automatically hides content with offensive words and phrases, as per to Instagram, which may not violate its community guidelines. Until now, the hidden words feature only worked with comments to posts in Threads.

said Mosri in the post:

Today in Threads, we’re expanding Hidden Words, which until now only applied to comments, so you can filter unwanted content from feed, search, profiles, and post comments in Threads. We’re also testing ways to choose who can quote you and the ability to mute notifications about your posts. I hope these features give you more control over your Threads experience and help keep it a place for positive conversation. Let me know what you think, especially if you are in the exams.

You can turn on the hidden words feature by going to your profile page > tap the settings icon in the top right corner > privacy > hidden words. Here, you can set threads to block offensive words automatically. You can also add any custom words, phrases, or emojis you don’t want to see in Threads.

Apart from that, the Instagram spin-off will let you mute notifications on posts and choose who can quote your posts on the platform. Both features are currently under testing, and speaking of which, Threads is also working on several other features such as auto-archiving of posts, real-time search results, swipe right to like posts, a native camera button, and more.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced during the Q1 2024 earnings call that Threads has reached a new milestone by crossing 150 million monthly active users. It is estimated that over 3.2 billion people use at least one of Meta’s apps every day.
