A return to the series’ survival horror roots.
It comes as no surprise to anyone that a new triple-A Alien game is in development. The good news is that it could release as soon as next year’s holiday season, 2023. The best news is that it’s reportedly inspired by the games from survival horror Dead Space and Resident Evil. This is not a sequel to Alien: Isolation, although one is also rumored to be in the release stage or very early development.
As reported by internal games, “sources” have provided documentation proving the existence of a Type-A Alien game with a holiday 2023 release window. Codenamed Marathon, it is being developed for current-gen consoles. Insider Gaming doesn’t know which studio is at the helm, but says survival horror staples Dead Space and Resident Evil were inspirations for the game, meaning this new title is likely to build on the success of Alien: Isolation instead. to try another. action-oriented entry, which often doesn’t do well.
Creative Assembly, the developer behind the original Alien: Isolation, did not respond to Insider Gaming’s request for comment on rumors of a sequel, but that won’t stop us from getting excited. The 2014 game reignited hope for video game adaptations of the franchise by taking inspiration from the original horror film, Alien, rather than taking inspiration from the more action-packed sequels.
There are a lot of Alien games in development right now. Uno, created by Survios, is a single player title with VR support for PC, consoles, and VR headsets. There is also a soon to be released XCOM Aliens called Aliens: Dark Descent. We didn’t fall in love with it during our Gamescom preview, but it could still surprise us.
