Using Baldurs Gate 3 vs. Tears of the Kingdom is an impossible game of the Year Debate

There are many excellent games in 2023, but no one has been speaking to the Legend of Zelda. The game was commended immediately, and was soon considered the master of the game and was turned into a game of the Year. But then on Baldurs Gate 3 Not only is this game an amazing experience, but it continued to impress even its developers and to break the records of the record, and put it to the test.

Suddenly, Tears of the Kingdom had huge competition, and now gamers everywhere are arguing over what title deserve to be crowned. While I think this debate is beginning to reflect the worst aspects of the game of the year concept, and not the celebration that title will be at play, though a lot of others will eventually weigh in on that debate, so I do not really think it will be enough to recognize the worst of the event.

It isn’t easy for me to argue that every year brings me many wonderful games. However, many have reached consensus around the merits of the game. For example in 2022, Elden Ring nearly won the awards season despite a terrible competition. One can die for obscenely untitled God of War: Ragnarok and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are not a must-play title, but they never compare to the wild-world adventure of Elden Ring. However, the race between Baldurs Gate 3 and Tears of the Kingdom isn’t as close as we are. Yes, the games are good. However, it isn’t surprising that this competition has an unexpected wrinkle due to our intense need to win champions every year.

You don’t have to play Golden Gate 3 or the Kingdom of Tears for a long time, so you can understand why these games are considered the same as Golden Gate. The two of them offer big adventures, although their specialties are different in mechanics and issues.

Baldurs Gate 3 is a simple and realistic role-playing experience. The subject of the game is based on narrative and character depth. Larian Studios filled their game world with numerous choices that can change the side-effect of games and the main narrative. It is literally impossible to see every well-written result created by the developers within one playthrough. Moreover, players are trying spells and abilities and become acquainted with new, aggressive combos each day. The latest break tactic is an oversized owlbear who uses the fly body press.

It makes a lot of sense that Tears of the Kingdoms brilliance lies in allowing players to navigate a huge world in whatever way they like. To me, that principle is unkind. The fun part of gaming is taking a break from the constructed main story and wandering along the path and see what you’ve found. Moreover, Tears of the Kingdom is basically an elaborate physics simulator that lets players manipulate their objects and create the enchanting Rube Goldberg machine to solve dungeon puzzles, make combat easier, or just cruise around Hyrule in style.

The two games are distinguishable, and the rest of the 2023 pack also offers much more fun and complicate the debate. For example, Baldurs Gate 3 drowns in a BAFTA-worthy story. It’s so powerful and fanciful that you need to play through it multiple times so that it’s clearly the best game. With the world of Tears of the Kingdom at full affluence, it’s impossible to see what it has to do with. The game is made out of a scream. It is also overshadowed by Tears of the Kingdoms ability to offer worthwhile adventures even if you are merely trekking or exploring dark caverns. That feature alone should consolidate Tears of the Kingdoms GOTY position. It’s easy to go back and forth like this ad nauseam, but at the moment, so many games and outlets are doing it.

The year many outlets declared the Last of Us part 2 GOTY. I personally would’ve gone with Tsushima, but this debate isn’t so familiar. On March 20th, 2020, two games that deserved numerous endorsements from the GOTY were canceled: Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, rather than clashing to decide which games should claim to hold the greatest title, fans and supporters took the lead over the titles to create a very powerful metal style animation and song.

Even though the fanbases didn’t really get a strong line, the pair would have been a bit of a chubby-esque rival. Despite the fact that it seems that a lot of fanbases were the cause of this unexpected union, there was not much overlap in each game demographic. It was a very popular moment for all the guys. In the first game, the ball ball played a hard-as-nails FPS that appeals to fans of fast action and shotguns, while the other a slow social simulator for those who want to live the dream of paying off debts and house mortgages. Yet, people found room to celebrate both of them.

But it is not too late for us in the year. The issue, and the underlying arguments around Baldurs Gate 3 and Tears of the Kingdom (the title of the game), is that while the games are not part of the same genre and have different specialties, their differences, and individual acclaims, are in fact putting people against each other. These games are possible and perhaps should be beacons of hope that represent not just excellent and different forms of game design, but also ways to do what challenge existing and often frustrating industry standards. To be honest, the other has a neoliberal advantage, not because of the desire, but because it is which gamers have it. We like to label one game the de facto game of the year each year. This phrase has become the weapon of celebration. Even now, the arguments in between record-high Metacritic scores and whether games deserve more algorithm-determined reviews than other titles.

It has been so long since two games were matched evenly and worthy of being named Game of the Year so that we wouldn’t know how to cope with this situation and just appreciate what we saw. The Story of Zelda and the Baldurs Gate 3 are clearly brilliant examples of their respective genres, but their performance, ambition, and their creators desire to stand apart from the pack. No matter what game is actually declared the game of the Year by all the winners whose responsibilities are for the purpose of giving that title, it might just be the next call. Although this title takes up a lot of review points, sales or end-of-year honors, it’s important to take a moment, take a breath and feel the problem with games like these, and appreciate that industry standards and modern expectations.
