In what was supposed to be the season finale of Vanderpump Rules, Tom Sandoval’s affair with Raquel Leviss, the closest friend of his girlfriend of 10 years, Ariana Madix, took a drastic turn. The show’s creators couldn’t resist picking up where they left off in order to capture the impact from this controversy, which has been dubbed “Scandoval,” for the following episode. In the episode “There’s Something About Her,” Ariana is having a hard time accepting the fact that Sandoval chose to party with Raquel over being there for her following her grandmother’s death. It should have sent warning bells for Charli when she saw Raquel purchasing a necklace identical to one Sandoval had been wearing. In another rehearsed exchange, Schwartz asks Sandoval how things are going with him and Ariana, and Sandoval plays the victim by stating that Ariana is annoyed by his presence and that they have become distant housemates. Despite Sandoval’s absence for much of the past year as he worked on personal projects and spent time with Raquel, this held true. Sandoval is obviously attempting to gaslight Ariana by portraying her as lazy and indifferent in order to distract attention from his affair. This is textbook narcissism, and it’s obvious that Sandoval cares more about himself than he does about being a supportive spouse to Ariana. The outcome of this drama is yet unknown, but one thing is certain: “Scandoval” will be riveting television.
