Windows 11 build 26252 released in the Canary channel with lock screen, startup improvements, and more

Microsoft has released a new build of Windows 11 for testing in the Canary Channel. It includes several changes and new features for the start menu, settings and several other changes. Here are the official release notes:

[Lock screen]

We’re starting to roll out Weather and more to your lock screen, starting with this build in the Canary Channel. Stay informed and efficient with dynamic updates that bring finance, traffic and sports to your lock screen, alongside the weather. The card design has been improved with acrylic blur, card size, spacing and font optimization. To enable this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. For more information, see Personalize your lock screen.

[Start menu]

You can now also pin apps from the Start menu to the taskbar by dragging and dropping items directly onto the taskbar from the pinned section of the Start menu.


  • Evaluation copy expiration date information is now visible under Settings > System > About.
  • We’re starting to roll out a new power recommendation to turn off HDR to save power on PCs with HDR displays under Settings > Power & Battery > Power Recommendations.



Fixed an issue that caused associates to see errors when trying to use voice typing in certain languages ​​such as Chinese.

Fixed an issue where if you bypassed the Windows settings (OOBE), pinyin would unexpectedly show up twice in the list of available input methods.

Fixed an issue that caused the colors in the performance section to not display correctly in dark mode.


  • Fixed an issue that caused the icons in Settings > Apps > Launcher to be too large for the available space for some users, causing them to disconnect.
  • Fixed an issue where Settings > System > Power & Battery unexpectedly had double text when showing a warning about a slow charger.
  • Fixed an issue where the Windows Update page in settings was not displayed correctly for some associates after the previous flight (no text appears). If you are affected, the update to this build with the patch should still happen automatically, but you may have to wait a bit.

Known bugs in today’s update include the following:


[IMPORTANT NOTE] We are investigating reports that some Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels are stuck on Build 26040 or Build 23620. The investigation is ongoing, however if you are affected and really want to get on the latest build in the Canary or Dev channel. Today – you can download the latest ISO here and perform a clean install and select your device back to fly in the Canary or Dev channel.
