You can now control who can ‘quote’ your posts in Threads

Instagram chief Adam Mosari said last month that Threads is testing some new controls that allow you to limit who can quote your posts on the platform. The feature is now rolling out to everyone on the social media platform, according to a new announcement from Masri:

The ability to limit who can quote your posts in Threads is now available to everyone. You can allow quotes from everyone in Threads, only the people you follow, or disable quote posts entirely.

Quoting someone in Threads means you’re resharing their post and adding your own thoughts along with it. You can quote someone’s post in Threads by tapping the double arrow button on the post. Apart from text, you can add other things like images, voice notes and hashtag in your quote.

Now, there are two ways you can restrict people from quoting your posts in Threads. First, when you create a new post, you’ll see at the bottom of the screen “Anyone can comment and quote.” Tap on it to reveal the options: “Anyone”, “Profiles you follow” and “Mentioned only”.

In other words, if you want, you can allow everyone to repost your content as a quote or limit it to the people you’ve mentioned. “Hopefully this will help keep threads in a more positive place and give people more control over their experience. If you’ve used this feature, I’d love to hear your thoughts,” Musari added.

In addition to the new posts, you can also check who is citing your existing posts. To do this, tap the three menu button in the upper right corner of a post. Tap the “Who can reply and cite” button, and you’ll find the same three options mentioned above.

However, the text-based Instagram spin-off has added a number of additional features in recent months, including the ability to flag posts and filter offensive words across the app. Moreover, Threads reached a new milestone last month – the platform now has over 150 million monthly active users.
