Android 15’s notification cooler will help reduce vibrations for subsequent notifications

Google seems to have been working on an updated ‘Notification Mobile’ feature spotted in the latest Android 15 Beta 1.2, which has some extra powers to limit distractions. It should be noted that when the Notification Cooldown feature, which rolled out with the Android 15 Developer Preview, was enabled, it gradually lowered the notification volume for subsequent notifications from the same app.

Now, digging into the latest Android 15 Beta 1.2, Mishal Rahman spotted a new setting that Google hid from its users in the Android 15 Beta 1 update. Specifically, when going to Settings > Notifications > Cool messagesMashal managed to return a page that was not there before called ‘vibrate when unlocked’.

According to the description, if this ‘vibrate when unlocked’ switch is turned on, the phone will “vibrate only when [the] The screen is unlocked.” Simply put, when you turn on this feature, your phone won’t vibrate like crazy when you get multiple notifications from the same app.

The vibrate when unlocked feature is disabled by default, but is fairly easy to enable. If you are worried that your phone will vibrate like crazy when you receive multiple messages from your WhatsApp group, you can enable this feature.

If you don’t want to miss any messages, you can leave the Vibrate when unlocked feature and the Cool message feature disabled. You can also control the notification by changing the default ‘Apply cool to all notifications’ to ‘Apply cool to calls’ so you don’t miss important calls.

As Mishal pointed out (via Android Authority), the feature, which Google hid in the Android 15 Beta 1 update, may return in future updates, possibly in next month’s Android 15 Beta 2 release. There is a chance that Google will completely eliminate this feature.

Interestingly, the codes for the Notification Cooler feature were available in AOSP, this feature could make its way to non-Pixel devices once they receive their Android 15 update. Another nice feature that will let you force dark mode on apps that don’t natively support dark mode was spotted in the Android 15 beta update.
