Microsoft and AMD announce Windows 11 AI PCs with Ryzen 8000 PRO and Pluto

Published on

AMD is preparing to launch the Ryzen 9000, Zen 5-based processors, later this year as support for the chipset and firmware begins to roll out. While we await the arrival of these, the company is now starting to reveal its AI computers that were first reported in December last year.

The company is announcing Ryzen 8000 PRO SKUs for commercial PCs and Microsoft is pretty excited about it too, for two reasons. First, these computers will have the Pluton security processor built in, something that’s been inside AMD chips since the Ryzen 6000.

In case you’re not aware, Pluton was designed by Microsoft to provide additional chip-level protection over the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) as the latter is vulnerable to bus interface sniffing attacks.

The second reason is Copilot, which is not surprising given that we see it in all aspects of the Windows operating system as well as other Microsoft products.

Ryzen 8000 PRO are basically the enterprise versions of Ryzen 8000 series APUs that were launched last year and one of the highlights of the lineup is the improved artificial intelligence performance. AMD has included dedicated AI accelerators called NPUs (Neural Processing Units) inside its processors since the Ryzen 7000 mobile and the company has promised that Windows Task Manager will be able to track and report NPU usage soon.

Microsoft also claims 41% faster device deployment performance, though we’re not sure what that compares to. on her blog messageThe technology giant writes:

AMD expands its portfolio of commercial laptops and desktops with AMD Ryzen PRO 8040 series mobile processors and AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 series desktop processors, which business professionals will see in new laptops and desktops from AMD’s OEM partners. By leveraging the dedicated, on-chip CPU, GPU and NPU, new processors powered by Ryzen AI deliver more trillions of operations per second (TOPS) than previous generations.

AMD PRO technologies help IT managers save time by enabling them to deploy devices up to 41% faster and manage them at scale with cloud-based tools, including Windows Autopilot.

In addition, the Microsoft Pluton security processor is integrated with AMD Ryzen PRO processors, providing protection from the chip to the cloud. It helps protect user credentials, identities, personal data, and encryption keys on Windows 11 PCs.
