Steam Deck OLED announced with improved display, better battery life and more

valve Just unveiled a newer version of its most popular gaming handheld, the Steam Deck. It’s not a performance upgrade, but it carries massive improvements in other areas. Simply called the Steam Deck OLED, it features an HDR OLED display, improved battery life, Wi-Fi 6E, and it’s even a little lighter.

The new OLED models, available in 512GB and 1TB versions, feature 7.4-inch 90Hz displays (larger than the 7-inch 60Hz LCD products), but with the same 1280×800 resolution. Despite the bump, the size of the handheld remains the same, and it is even 5% lighter than the LCD models.

Another area of ​​improvement is battery life. Valve managed to squeeze a 50Whr battery into the OLED versions (over the LCD’s 40Whr). Combined with a more efficient APU from AMD, and the reduced power consumption of the OLED display, Valve says to expect 30-50% more battery life in the newer models.

God Steam Deck OLED It will cost $549 for the 512GB model, while the 1TB version will come in at $649. As before, the screen of the 1TB version has a special anti-glare etching for better viewing in bright areas.

Valve also releases “Limited Edition” OLED Steam Deck This time with a transparent color on the shell and red accents. It comes with a specially designed carrying case, and 1TB of storage, and is exclusive to customers in the US and Canada. Available only in limited quantities, the limited edition Steam Deck OLEDs will cost $679.

The Steam Deck OLED model, plus the limited edition, comes out on November 16th, with pre-orders scheduled to open a few days before launch.

However, two of the LCD Steam Deck versions are being phased out. This will affect the current 64GB and 512GB LCD variants. Prices drop on these older LCDs as well, with 64GB going for $349, 256GB going for $399, and 512GB going for $449 later.

talking to Bloomberg, Valve product designer Lawrence Yang says the new OLED version and its improvements have generated feedback from customers. Valve is also confident that the new hardware won’t suffer from supply issues like the original release. The company is also said to be diving into development of Steam Deck 2 with next-gen hardware and upgrades, but as previously announced, that’s still years away from release.
