Published on

Microsoft, today, released the newest build to Windows 11 Dev Channel Insiders. The new build, 23541, fixes many bugs such as one where dragging app icons on the taskbar would cause File Explorer to crash, though Microsoft confirms that there are also some new File Explorer bugs. There is also a Microsoft Store update.

The full changelog for the new build appears below:

changes and improvements

[Start menu]

  • A rich preview of thumbnails (tips) for cloud files under Recommended in the Start menu and the ability to right-click to share these files rolled with Building 23511 May be temporarily gone for some Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.

Corrections

[Taskbar]

  • Fixed an issue where dragging app icons on the taskbar could sometimes cause explorer.exe to crash.

[Search on the Taskbar]

  • Fixed an issue where sometimes the tooltip when hovering over the search box did not match the current search highlight.

[Dev Drive]

  • Fixed an issue where a boot folder path could not be pasted into the dialog when creating a new Dev drive.

Note: Some fixes noted here in Insider Preview builds from the Dev channel may make it into the service updates for the released version of Windows 11.

known problems

[File Explorer]

  • [NEW] Desktop icons may appear as generic white pages rather than their corresponding icons.
  • [NEW] There is an issue where the progress wheel icon will get stuck in the file explorer tab even though the folder has finished loading.
  • [NEW] Changing the sort order of the folders does not persist if you navigate away and back from the folder.

[Start menu]

  • Some apps under All apps in the Start menu, such as PWA apps installed using Microsoft Edge, may be incorrectly labeled as a system component.

[Input]

  • Unicode Emoji 15Support that started rolling with her Building 23475 and the updated color font format with COLRv1 Support that started out with Build 23506 no longer appears after updating to Build 23531 Because of a bug. This issue will be fixed on a future flight soon.
  • [NEW] There is a high vulnerability tabtip.exe crash that affects the ability of some associates to type.

[Windows Copilot]

  • [NEW] We’ve heard feedback from folks on the Dev channel that the Windows Copilot preview isn’t available in some regions. We’ve found an issue and plan to re-enable it for these Insiders with a future in-flight fix.
  • You can use Alt + Tab to exit Windows Copilot, but not to return to it. Windows + C will return focus to Windows Copilot
  • When first starting or after refreshing Copilot using voice access, you will need to use the “Show Network” commands to click the “Ask me anything” box for the first time.
