“Deadpool” has always had a reputation for being disrespectful of the original material. The 2016 film included an interpretation of Vanessa that was mostly true to the comics, but left out an essential element: her ability to use Copycat. With “Deadpool 3” on the horizon, many are hoping Vanessa will fully embrace her mutant potential. Copycat can take on the appearance of anybody and mimic their abilities thanks to his shape-shifting abilities. Although this would be a huge change from the first two movies, “Deadpool” has always been known for its loose approach to continuity. This shift in Vanessa’s personality could be difficult to understand, but “Deadpool” has never been recognized for its logical consistency. There may be no context for this revelation in the film; perhaps Wade was aware of Vanessa’s mutant powers from the start. It’s also important to note that “Deadpool 3” is already looking like a crazy trip, with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine in some manner. There are so many twists and turns in store that anything may happen to Vanessa. Regardless matter how the plot develops, it’s great to watch “Deadpool” continue to challenge the conventions of the superhero film genre. We can’t wait to see what they come up with since at its heart, this series has always been about having fun and doing things its own way.
